The Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club (GCSGC) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Week 7 Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions™. Six players are recognized for outstanding play during their respective games on Friday, October 1, 2021: Gage Baker (So. QB, Paradise Honors); Will Galvan (Jr. QB, Cactus); Serge Gboweiah (Sr. RB, Desert View); AJ Murphy (Sr. RB, Casteel); Isaiah Savoie (Sr. RB, Apache Junction); and Brayton Silbor (Sr. QB, Chaparral).
Two of the six players were named on the 55-player Week 3 Watch List™ released on September 7, 2021. All six players will receive their Nomination Medallions at an upcoming school event this week. By earning Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions™, they will attend the end of season Ed Doherty Award Luncheon on December 18, 2021, where one athlete will become the recipient of the Ed Doherty Award.
Details on their individual performances on October 1st are as follows:
Gage Baker – SO QB, Paradise Honors
In the first start of his high school career, Baker completed 19/26 passes for 401yds and 8TDs. He added 56yd rushing in the Panthers' 61-13 win over Odyssey Institute.
Will Galvan – JR QB, Cactus
Galvan completed 19/27 passes for 223yds and a school-record 7TDs in the Cobras 54-6 win over Poston Butte.
Serge Gboweiah – SR RB, Desert View
Gboweiah rushed for 315yds on 24 carries and 3TDs in the Jaguars' 46-28 win over Marana.
AJ Murphy – SR RB, Casteel
Murphy ran for a school-record 384yds on 31 carries, adding 5TDs in the Colts' 47-27 win over Higley.
Isaiah Savoie – SR RB, Apache Junction
Baker ran for a school-record 292yds on 31 carries while recording 5TDs in the Prospectors 56-31 win over Fountain Hills.
Brayton Silbor - SR QB, Chaparral
Silbor, the leading 6A passer in the state after 5 games, completed 27/37 passes for 347yds and 4TDs in the Firebirds 42-21 win of O'Connor.

For 36 years, the Ed Doherty Award has been the State of Arizona’s highest individual high school football honor and is awarded annually to the state’s most outstanding high school football player by the Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club.
