Card, Eastman, Keene, London & Plummer Earn Week 4 Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions

The Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club (GCSGC) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Week 4 Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions. Five players are recognized for outstanding play during their respective games on Friday, September 13, 2019: Dalton Card, (Sr. DL, Casteel); Isaiah Eastman (Sr. RB/WR, Higley); Mikey Keene (Jr. QB, Chandler); PJ London (Jr. QB/DB, Blue Ridge); and Will Plummer (Sr. QB, Gilbert).


“At least a dozen players were debated by our Selection Committee for medallions this week,” said Rob Yowell, Selection Committee Chair. “These five young men proved worthy and earned their official nomination for the Ed Doherty Award.”


Three of the five players were named on the 56-player Week 3 Watch List™ released on September 10, 2019. All five players will receive their Medallions at an upcoming school event this week. By earning Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions, they will attend the end of season Ed Doherty Award Luncheon on December 14, 2019 where one athlete will become the recipient of the Ed Doherty Award.


Details on their individual performances on September 13 are as follows:


Dalton Card - SR - DL – Casteel HS

Currently 3rd in 5A for tackles, Card was a defensive wrecking machine in the Colts' week 4 25-13 win over Mountain View. He recorded 14 tackles, 6TFL and 2 sacks.


Isaiah Eastman - SR - RB/WR – Higley HS

In a 57-30 win over Rainer Beach HS in Seattle, Washington, Isaiah Eastman posted 360 all-purpose yards for the Knights, rushing 21 times for 225 yds/3TDs. He also caught 5 passes for 135 receiving yds and 1 TD.


Mikey Keene - JR - QB – Chandler HS

Mikey Keene took the reins as the starting quarterback following Chandler’s 3 state championships under QB Jacob Conover. He was perfect in Week 4, posting 10 for 10 with 261yds and 5TDs while playing only the first half of the Wolves 56-0 win over Capital Christian HS in Sacramento, Calif.


PJ London - JR - QB/DB - Blue Ridge HS

In a 33-28 road loss at Florence HS, PJ London gave an outstanding and rare performance starting on both sides of the ball for the Yellow Jackets. He was 28/40 passing for 239yds, added 56yds rushing and one TD. On defense he tallied 13 tackles and one interception.


Will Plummer - SR - QB – Gilbert HS

During Week 4, Will Plummer unleashed his full arsenal on Barry Goldwater in a 62-22 win for the Gilbert tigers. Plummer was 15/24 passing with 249yds and 5TDs, while adding 13 rushes, 133yds and 2 more TDs.

For 32 years, the Ed Doherty Award has been the State of Arizona’s highest individual high school football honor and is awarded annually to the state’s most outstanding high school football player by the Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club. The Ed Doherty Award recognizes the player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. The winner of the award epitomizes great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. In addition to on-field performance, the Ed Doherty Award recognizes the well-rounded accomplishments of community involvement, school pride, and academics.
