PHOENIX, Ariz. – October 11, 2022 – The Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club (GCSGC) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Week 8 Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions™. Four players are recognized for outstanding play during their respective games on Friday, October 7, 2022: Devon Dampier (Sr. QB – Saguaro); Chace Logan (Sr. QB – Tonopah Valley); Adam Mohammed (Jr. RB – Apollo); and Cody Leopold (Sr. RB/LB – Prescott).
Three of the four players were named on the 71-player Week 3 Watch List™ released on September 6, 2022. All four players will receive their Nomination Medallions at an upcoming school event this week. By earning Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions, they will attend the end of season Ed Doherty Award Luncheon on December 17, 2022, where one athlete will become the recipient of the Ed Doherty Award.
Details on their individual performances on October 7th are as follows:
Devon Dampier – Sr. QB – Saguaro
Dampier totaled 147 pass yards and 96 rushing yards with 2 TDs in a 42-18 win over Desert Edge. For the season, Dampier has three 100-yard rushing games and also handles the punting for Sabercats (46 yd/avg).
Chace Logan – Sr. QB – Tonopah Valley
Logan was 37-of-46 for 502 yards & 6 TDs in a 55-28 win over Kingman Academy, improving the Phoenix to 6-1 this year. Logan and his teammate Malachi Wilt each have 15 TD passes.
Adam Mohammed – Jr. RB - Apollo
Mohammed had 15 carries for 132 yards for 3 rushing TDs and a 95yd kickoff return for a TD in a 49-20 win over Goldwater. He also tallied 8 tackles (4 solo) on defense for the Hawks. Mohammed is averaging 8 yards per carry, has 21 total TDs, and is at 1,156 all-purpose yards on the season.
Cody Leopold – Sr. RB/LB – Prescott
Leopold tallied 24 carries 191 yards and 5 TDs, 2-2 passing for 20 yards and had eight tackles in a 44-20 win over Sierra Linda Saturday. He leads the Badgers in rushing, total TDs (16) and tackles (50), and has TD passes through 5 games.
