The Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club (GCSGC) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Week 6 Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions. Seven players are recognized for outstanding play during their respective games on Friday, November 6, 2020: Logan Gingg (Sr. RB, Verrado); Luis Jaramillo (Sr. RB, Flagstaff); Caleb Jones (Sr. RB/LB, Basha); Adryan Lara (Jr. QB, Desert Edge); Nicco Marchiol (Jr. QB, Hamilton); Jared Williams (Sr. RB, Chaparral), and Nate Wright (Sr. RB, Prescott).
“It was another week of impressive football performances on both the individual and team fronts. And, this week we saw some additional evidence of extraordinary leadership by school athletic directors and coaches as many teams scrambled to fill schedule openings resulting from COVID-19 cancelations,” said Ward Hickey on behalf of Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club. “We applaud the school district personnel for acting behind the scenes to make sure our young people have the chance to play and that fans have the opportunity to cheer them on. The young men are leaving it all on the field every Friday night and it is a pleasure to see them competing.”
Lara & Marchiol were named on the 50-player Week 3 Watch List™ released on October 12, 2020. The remaining five listed during Week 6 as Nomination Medallion recipients have emerged to join the others as having provided some of the most outstanding individual statistical performances during the 2020 season.
All seven players will receive their Medallions at an upcoming school event this week. By earning Ed Doherty Award Nomination Medallions, they will attend the end of season Ed Doherty Award Luncheon on January 9, 2021 where one athlete will become the recipient of the Ed Doherty Award.
